All Roads Leave/Lead Home
All Roads Leave/Lead Home reshapes the narrative of home as a permanent fixed space into one that is vulnerable and ephemeral. Using brick works to explore the connection between Trosclair’s hometown of New Orleans and St. Louis (her home for 12 years), the title work is cast from a (former) plantation’s walkway in New Orleans, and includes a lone brick engraved “Cheltenham St. Louis.” A marker of connection and dislocation between the two port cities, where the topographical imprint of one creates the foundation for the other. How does this build or uproot feelings of placeness? How do we define and create home as we move from place to place? How do we carry our residual selves, into another- other home?
